            I can’t believe I’m 30!  My pedicure this week felt fabulous, I have a feeling that I am going to have to make sure I have one every couple weeks because I felt so relaxed after!

Dear baby,

            I think of you often and can’t wait to meet you.  It is crazy to think how much our lives have changed in the last 15 months and how much more they are going to change in 7 more months.  We are so excited that you are on the way and that our family is going to grow.  I am looking forward to hopefully getting a peak at you on Wednesday during my first doctor’s appointment.

The Dancing Bean

Serevina loves music.  She is much happier in the car when music is on rather than Mommy's preferred NPR.  She definitely has favorites..but you would have to ask Sven what they are!  Today we were hanging out in the living room and I had the radio in the kitchen playing music.  Suddenly Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5 came on and she was grovin!  She was determined to dance a long and stood up all on her own!!  Such a cutie!!

Strawberries!

Last year a friend told us about Potrero Nuevo Farm http://potreronuevofarm.org and we have loved being members.  It is a little different than normal CSA arrangements.  Last year they would harvest and set all the produce up in the bike hut and it was almost like a farmer’s market and we went down twice a week to get out stuff.  This year they have set it up differently and they have an acre or so set up that the members can come harvest their produce on their own every Monday evening.  Serevina’s favorite part is the strawberries!  After I have harvested our lettuce and other produce I sit her down and harvest our strawberries while she chows down on them, almost faster than I can pick them.  

Dr. Sven Mawson, PhD

This weekend Sven participated in his PhD graduation at UCLA.  We left late Wednesday afternoon and drove down to Santa Barbara and stayed with Gigi and Papi.  We got up Thursday morning to drive down to LA for the hooding ceremony.  Gigi came along to babysit Serevina during the ceremony, which was very nice, because I don’t think she would have survived 10 minutes in there!  Mémé, Pépé, Jacaranda, and Ansley met us at UCLA and we enjoyed the ceremony.  The most amusing part was the organ player; he played a huge range of stuff from Lady Gaga to the Eagles. 

 

            After the ceremony we headed to Vincenzo’s, our favorite restaurant from when we lived in Santa Monica, Vincenzo remembered us and we had a wonderful time!  Once we had Prosecco at the table we had Serevina announce our big news with her Big Sister t-shirt.  Needless to say we surprised everyone!

            Friday we enjoyed hanging around Santa Monica and then Saturday was the engineering graduation ceremony.  It was undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students.  The PhD students were first so we listened to the speaker, watched Sven walk and get hooded again, and then Sven snuck out across the field and we headed to lunch!  Then it was back to Santa Barbara for dinner at Gigi and Papi’s. 

            Sunday morning Sven, Papi, Mémé, and Pépé went for a bike ride while Gigi, Serevina, and I went for a walk with Beau.  Then we went to Samarkand to have lunch with Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop.  Then it was time for the long drive home. 

            It was wonderful to hang out with family and to see Sven graduate!

Dear baby,

More people now know that you are on the way.  I couldn’t not tell Aunt Heidi, so at the end of her shower when everyone had left I spilled the beans.  She is so excited that you and her baby boy are going to be so close in age, as are we!  We found a great shirt that said “Big Sister” on it for Serevina to wear when we told Gigi and Papi, Mémé and Pépé, and Aunt Jacaranda.  We think we are going to have her wear it when we do facetime with Auntie Amber tomorrow to tell her.  So exciting!

First Bike Ride

We ventured out on our first family bike ride and we made it from Mémé and Pépé’s to 92 and back.  Serevina wasn’t a huge fan.  But we think that was because her helmet kept sliding down over her eyes and she wasn’t too happy.  But she managed to fall sleep on the way back from 92. So we will definitely try it again soon!

Dear baby,

The shock of your presence is wearing off and we are so excited!  It is so hard not telling anyone yet.  Every time I talk to your grandparents or your auntie I have to bite my tongue to keep myself from telling them.  I am throwing a shower for Aunt Heidi on Saturday and it is going to be so hard not to tell her!

Our little reader

Our little reader….One of the things that is super important to Sven and I is that we want our children to love reading as much as we do.  We figured there might be a little of the love in our DNA, but we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to continue to instill the love of reading.  We have been reading to Serevina since the very beginning and she LOVES books.  She will point to the bookshelf and get very excited.  She pulls books out of her bins and off her shelves.  In the last couple weeks she has started “reading” to herself.  For a while now she would look at books and turn the pages.  But now we find her flipping through the pages and talking as she does it.  It makes me so happy to see her reading already!  We are sticking to board books for now, because she loves getting to turn the pages and she is a little too rough for regular paperbacks right now.  I am very much looking forward to our journey through books in the years to come.
